Should I buy a stick shift for my 16 year old son?

He has only been driving for 6 months and drives "ok". Do you think it would be dangerous to buy this Scion TC that we like that is manual transmission? I say "yes" because I drove for many years as a teen, but his dad (divorced) says "no way". I don't want to put him in danger. Any manual drivers, new drivers, with input?
