Am i entitled to another bottle?

just wondering...... today i bought a bottle of wine which i dropped when i got out side the shop (which was still the shops car park.). i picked up the pieces and asked if i cud get another. the man was sssooo rude b4 he told me that if i wanted another id have to pay for it. i spend 200 euro a week in this small shop so i told him where to stick it and he said same to u love. i was quite pissed off. i didnt bye another bottle there. but what id like to know is should or cud he have replaced it? useing the remains as a return? my boyfriend said i should go back in and knock a dearer bottle off the shelf and leave. hee hee hee. what do u think?
