Why won't gastric juice inside the stomach digest the stomach itself or the walls of the stomach?

The cells that make up the walls of your stomach have glands that are constantly secreting a protective mucous layer. That prevents the burning of the stomach lining. Also, when there is a problem with these cells then the acid will start to eat away at the stomach lining and this causes ulcers.
